Exploration session… let’s now begin our true exploration of jazz.
These sessions will be free of genre. This session contains a featured song and artist. Our song this session is three beautiful versions of Butterfly. Our featured artist is Syl Johnson with two extremes from his 1970 album Is It Because I’m Black, the funk floor killer Right On and the blues feel black awareness title track. We also have an atmospheric number from the Duke, 70′s funk from Africa, soulful groove from the Mann, gospel jazz from the Byrd, and an unusual ending with the other Duke. Enjoy…

Butterfly (Herbie Hancock)
Butterfly (Norman Connors)
Butterfly (Henry Mancini)
The Phantom (Duke Pearson)
Right On (Syl Johnson)
Why Dont You Play The Organ, Man (Memphis Black)
Uprising (Parts 1 + 2) (Antibalas with Jojo Quo)
Cajun Moon (Herbie Mann with Cissy Housten)
I’m Tryin’ To Get Home (Donald Byrd)
Is It Because I’m Black (Syl Johnson)
L.S.D. (Librae, Solidi, Denarii) (The Duke Of Burlington)

Thanks to MrPhipson for the photography and soundbite on this session, Respect.
